A G2E Like No Other – Here’s What You May Have Missed From This Year’s Virtual Event

by Global Payments Gaming Team / November 5, 2020

Presented annually by the American Gaming Association (AGA), the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) is the world's premier gathering of commercial and tribal gaming professionals. Although this year’s event was a fully virtual affair, it still succeeded in bringing together the global gaming industry to see what the future holds for the industry.

In addition to keynotes and networking opportunities, G2E 2020 provided attendees with valuable educational sessions that explored in detail the innovation and trends that are shaping the world of gaming, including GPGS’ own Chris Justice, president of Global Payments Gaming Solutions and AGA board member, who participated in the session: “How Payments Modernization Advances Responsible Gaming.” Justice, along with Kahlil Philander, PhD, Washington State University and Sina Miri, Aristocrat, discussed the benefits of modernizing payments to advance responsible gaming while still providing an enhanced gaming experience to consumers.

The trio discussed how, as consumers shift to a cashless society, casinos utilizing digital payment solutions can actually give patrons better control over their play to bet more responsibly. Unlike traditional forms of wagering (like cash), digital payments technology empowers players to improve the tracking, management and budgeting of their money. Based on players’ actions, casinos can create alerts and notify patrons when their behaviors are changing. This enables casino operators to then subtlety intervene, providing tools to educate and equip players to game more responsibly.

The panel also touched on cashless technology’s ability to remove friction in the payment environment while ensuring it targets responsible gaming. Cashless solutions, including Global Payments Gaming Solutions’ VIP Mobility, enable all of the industry’s stakeholders to deliver workable solutions for problem gambling while providing added support to players that need the education and intervention.

VIP Mobility, along with industry initiatives including UNLV’s Research Collaborative are actively collaborating to define the role of cashless solutions in advancing responsible gaming by helping casino operators better recognize and address the conditions that give rise to the issue. In today’s market, there is tremendous opportunity for casinos to leverage new technology for the benefit of all of their customers, ensuring a responsible, enhanced gaming experience for all.
